Interesting sangat email ni, so dengan kebenarannya, saya publish kat sini, so that everybody can read. Thank kak Mia @ Maya. Really appriciate kesudian akak share dengan everybody.
Ok petikan email dari beliau :-
Stumbled upon yr blog, terjumpa tajuk interesting. I'm a Malay, chinese school educated, so do my 2 boys. Izinkan akak share experience been educated in chinese school, and as a mother whose children are now in chinese school.
When me and my sibling were sent to chinese school in late 70s to early 80's, when not many Malay were that open in term of thinking. Jadi, kami bebudak kampung ni, bukan saja kena menghadapi prejudis orang2 kampung, malah prejudis sesetengah rakan2 Cina yg memandang serong pada kami. Contoh, among the Malay, kami dituduh makan babi, menggunakan chopstick...etc. Semuanya terpaksa ditelan pahit. Imagine when we went to kenduri, ada orang kg yg kata "ha, dah dtg dah, bagi diorang pakai sepit".
I believe, our society is more open in thinking, situasi ini dah tak dirasai oleh anak2 akak sekarang.
Sekarang ni ramai anak2 yg dah "lemak manis", pantang cikgu marah sikit, mengadu kat mak bapak. Mak bapak lak, sebab sibuk bekerja, tak tahu cerita sebenar. Children can act differently in different social setting. Akak tak setuju dengan cara orang putih "spare the rod and spoil the child". Look what happen to their society now.
Di sekolah ada matapelajaran agama. Kalau rasa tak cukup, ibu bapa kena bimbing sendiri anak2.
During my school days, I brought food from home, home cooked halal healthy meal, no junk food, no fizzy drinks. So do my children. When I was small, no questions asked, parents kata jangan beli kat kantin sebab tak halal, kita pun tak beli. Now, my children not only asked me why, they also give me along list of food yg mana halal, yg mana tak halal! Sebab, kebetulan, kantin sekolah diorang ada beli nasi lemak dari luar, katanya nasi lemak halal. Akak rasa was2, sebab tak nampak orang yg hantar nasi lemak tu ke kantin. Akak kata, anything2 yg was2, jangan makan selagi kita tak pasti. 1 hari, akak tunggu kat luar pagar, nampak ada Pakcik Melayu bawa nasi lemak ke kantin. Akak tanya Pakcik tu, dia jual nasi lemak ke kantin ke, dia kata kantin tu memang tempah nasi lemak kat dia. Sekolah buat peraturan, nasi lemak tu diberi keutamaan untuk pelajar2 Melayu. Believe me, when kids bring food from home, not only they can save their pocket money, we can also make sure that they don't spend their money buying food that are ladden with (empty) calory, fat and sugar in which do not contribute to brain development.
My children are prohibited from eating any junk food, fizzy drink. Limit their fast food intake, eat more vege and fruits. Jangan harap nak makan twisties, sweets, ntah apa2 jenama junk food lagi. Tapi, setahun sekali, masa hari kanak2, boleh makan. So, you can see my children eating those junk food macam tak ingat dunia!
I have a Malay friend, on learning that my children go to chinese school, said that she doesn't want her kids to go to chinese school, scared that her children will be "less Malay". But, on our frequent trips to overseas, dia akan makan apa2 saja yang "asalkan bukan babi". And me, rela kebulur kalau tak jumpa yg halal. So, who is "less Malay" here?
Belajar di sekolah cina memang banyak homework. I'm used to it, so, bila tengok anak2 banyak homework, kita sama ada boleh bimbing atau guna teknik yang lebih efektif supaya boleh siapkan cepat.
Learning Math and counting is soooooooo easy in Mandarin. Until now, I just cannot make myself counting in any other languages than Mandarin.
Learning more languages certainly helps the child. I feel more at home in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong during my working trips than some of my chinese friends who do not know Mandarin. Then only you'll know kenapa nabi dulu kata "Menuntut lah ilmu hingga ke Negeri China". Orang2 Melayu sekarang pergi China untuk shopping, I went there to to work - China, Taiwan, Hong Kong like my second home. Bangga bila Melayu mampu buat semua tu, until a few years ago when I said "enough is enough, my boys need me more than others!". I'm now a cook/driver/teacher/nurse/judge/cleaner/janitor (in short housewife) who is proficient in Malay, English, Mandarin, understand Kantonis and a little bit of Arabic!
Kat putrajaya tader sekolah Cina, ehehe jadi orang putrajaya tader choice le..kalau nak hantar ke sekolah cina, terdekat dekat Serdang rasanya..
